I think they are too front heavy for a one handed gun. Other than that...love them!

So Cap. and anyone else who wants to comment. Why were the originals equiped with an "In the white" cylinder? Aesthetics or more practical reasons? Don't know my history except that the original Walkers were limited in numbers. 1K or something like that.

I don't think there's a definitive answer as to why the originals had in the white cylinders. I've seen it said that it had to do with the iron or that it's because Colt didn't want to weaken the cylinder further by heating it to blue it. But I don't know what the actual reason is.

And you're correct, Colt made 1000 for the military contract, and an additional 100 for commercial sale. So there were 1100 made in total.

Pretty much what Dave said. The speculation is they didn't want to weaken the cylinder by bluing. Nobody knows for sure.
Numbers; yes. 1000 military versions and 100 civilian versions, most of which were given as gifts by Col. Colt. You can find more details here:

Walkers should have come on wheels.

They did. The wheeled versions are called "Howitzers"

I am still trying to put a Paterson deal together.....but the way prices have climbed, I've put it on the back burner for a while.

Me too Mick. I really need one to round out the collection. I keep my eyes open for a deal on one. I found one on GB that listed incorrectly and thought I was going to score it for under $400. But at the last minute someone else discovered it too, and ran the price up to right under $800. I ain't paying that much.

Just gotta keep searching. One will pop up.

I have two Walkers,  one Colt and the other Uberti.  They are a hoot to shoot.  Bowling pins at 50 yards are no problem.  They do have an appetite for powder if you load them to the maximum.

Shooting single handed if fun,  but not an all day activity.  When they get too heavy for one handed shooting.  I charge them with ‘light’loads… (7+"
