2ND Model vs. 3RD Model Dragoon
« on: January 27, 2014, 01:41:44 PM »
You guys have any preference between  the two? I had a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 years ago and just despised the square trigger guard while using the standard grips. It always bruised up my second finger on my shooting hand. I really like the looks of the square trigger guard, it just screams Dragoon! Any problems with this on the 2ND Model?

No problem with the square back guard on my ASM 2nd Dragoon.  I do not have big hands though.  I see plenty of people complain about grips being too small on different types of guns but I have never found any I had a problem with.

I prefer the 3rd but I really don't think there is enough recoil for the square back of the 2nd to be a problem.

Yeah I thought about the fact that the Dragoon has a lot more weight out front and it isn't putting out the same recoil as a .44 magnum. Still undecided as to which model to get first though! The other 3 will be an easy decision though!

I shoot my two 2nd Gen Dragoons in CAS matches and for plinking. I have laid my second finger's knuckle open many times. I even keep bandaids in my ammo box expecting blood. After a while the flow of blood subsided and eventually never happened again. Haven't had to use the box of bandaids for over a year now. I believe it has everything to do with how I was holding my guns. I noticed this shortly after going from a two hand hold to shooting one handed with a Dragoon in the right hand then a Dragoon in the left hand. The effort of shooting left handed made me pay even closer attention to my one handed hold and viola! no more blood!

I love my 2nd Gen Dragoons and I get a lot of comments at the unloading table!

You definitely get style points for that! I don't shoot CAS but I've really enjoyed using my Uberti 3rd Model in the field. I probably shot it more than anything else last year, except the .22's.

Never had a problem shooting my Uberti 2nd....umm, except as noted:

http://blackpowdersmoke.com/colt/index.php?topic=197.0

Which had nothing to do with my knuckles and the trigger guard, more to do with my thumb bein' someplace it wasn't s'posed to be.... J*j

But, I digress. I like the look of the squareback over the rounded TG, and the Dragoon is big enough that clearance of anything doesn't appear to be an issue (other than that of the check clearing the bank!) The SB trigger guard adds a Walker-like look to the Dragoon that I just love!

That video is one of my favorites! I was so happy that day.
I had just gotten released from the Dr. on a work related injury of my right hand and wasn't able to shoot for almost a year (I cheated and used two hands a few times anyway) This was the first time I was actually able to cock the hammer and pull the trigger one handed after the injury.

Blazing away with both guns is WELL worth having two on the belt!  :-\
