Reloading tools
« on: May 16, 2022, 05:43:33 AM »
One thing I like about C&B revolvers is that they have the reloading press attached. It is slower but no slower than making metallic ammo at home.  The difference is when you use your time.  Loading 6 rounds of 44 special at the loading bench is not much faster than loading 6,  44 dragoon chambers.  Well this is all idle talk.

I agree.

I use a Lee single stage press. It could easily be packed to the range to load on the fly. And you're right, it takes about the same amount of time to load five .45 Colt rounds as it does to load 5 chambers on the BP revolver.

Rick, not idle talk at all. I enjoy your posts. I have never loaded from the bench. It's good to know that I am not missing anything by not using the bench loader. Thanks, Z

A good point, DragoonRick. Those who object to the tedious process of loading a C&B revolver don't usually mention the time it takes to reload metallic cartridges before you can shoot them. I enjoy doing both, and 99% of the time it's with black powder.
With the mention of the Lyman 310 tool you reminded I have to obtain another hand held/portable press as I literally wore out my old Lyman.
Only Blackpowder is interesting.

When I'm at a SASS shootin' match and I'm stuffin the perCUSSIN' revolvers and people wonder why, I tell them I get to do my reloading out in the fresh air with the best of friends instead of alone in a basement. I remind them that each pistol comes with a free reloading outfit.

I like these original Winchester loading tools.   I like to do things the old way and be able to do things anywhere I want.
