Salesman sample no serial number?
« on: July 23, 2022, 05:30:19 PM »
Have you guys heard of such a thing?
I looked at one today. It has the number 7 everywhere it’s should have a serial number. It’s in very nice condition.
Any ideas on value?
I’m giving serious thought to this one due to condition.

In 1860 Colt serial numbers ran from 1-2000. Serial number 52 sold for 9,500.00 in much less than perfect shape. https://www.collectorsfirearms.com/products/31942-extremely-early-colt-1860-army-44-caliber-c10574.html  Beware of forgeries, they're out there.

So given this information it most likely wouldn’t even have the 7.
The price on it is much less than any I’ve seen in this condition. I knew there was a reason.
Thank you for your expertise once again Hawg.

If I may ask AR, where is this 1860? LGS? It still sounds interesting to me. Did it appear to be an old revolver as far as you could tell? Markings on other than the number 7?

I saw it at a Colt collector at a civil war relic show in Georgia.
I’m still considering it.
It was priced less than half what the other one was that I looked at.
He also had a navy I considered but it wasn’t matching numbers but priced accordingly.
He said he would ship either.

AR, yes, I think I would still considering it as well. Keep us posted if you will, on what you decide to do. I would really like to see a picture of that one :-*
Good luck my friend.

Colt didn't let anything out the door without a serial number. If it's that cheap something is awful fishy.

No bud we’re  rolling through western Kentucky headed home.
If I get serious I’ll have him ship it.
