While those are called checkering tools, they sure look like chisels to me. They do list some carbide checkering tools. A bit pricey if only doing one stock but worth it if you were to consider a career in checkering. I used DemBart tools,

Rechecking that stock, it does not look like the diamonds were ever pointed. Or whoever sanded the point off did a very uniform job.  But, your layout is already done for you so a single line cutter will clean up what is there. Do the first pass 1/2 deep in one direction. Then cut the other set in. Then go back and finish the first cut to final depth.

It is a bit of work but the results are worth it.

Sorry for your loss. You're lucky to have them. I don't have anybody close by. A niece in Georgia and a stepson in Indiana that call me once or twice a week. The stepson has made a couple of trips down from north Indiana.
