Used up a little BP today
« on: October 20, 2023, 06:46:04 PM »
Went out this morning a fired the new Remington revolvers I bought last week.

First the 1858...       works like all Remingtons do, not the prettiest girl at the dance but always shows you a good time.

The new 1863 Pocket Remington got heated up next.  It worked perfectly with .315 round balls and CCI #10 caps

Finally,  I pulled the LeMat out and proceeded to burn powder at a little more rapid pace.   9 shots per loading and 35 grains per cylinder.   It's a PITA to load and clean but fun to shoot.

I've been practicing shooting with both hands with my pellet gun since I dislocated my shoulder several months ago so I tried some left hand shooting today with the big guns.   Happy to say I'm getting pretty comfortable with both hands.    Maybe I'll try some two fisted shooting next time.

Great range report, Mike! Good to see someone is burning some powder!
I've been so wrapped up with bowhunting since the month started, I haven't had time to think about BP much.

I need to get out and burn some while the weather is nice. I have the want to but I just don't do it.

Howdy Mike. Great day all around it appears.  :cowboypistol: I need to do the same. Ya say that LeMat is a pain to clean up? It sure is a nice looking gun though. I really like that little pocket pistol too. Great pictures Mike.

Good post.

Mike, how much powder were you using in the  .31 Remington?  Did it shoot high?

What are your thoughts on that little guy?

It was nice to get a little shooting in.  I plan to do more in the near future.

G Dog;   I started with 10 grains 3F  Goex,   and increased to 12 grains after that.   10 grains fit easily but 12 took a pretty good push to seat the ball.   Next time I'm going to try some Old Ensford and maybe some 4F I have.   It does shoot high,  about 10 inches at 15 yards but I was ready for that.   It's nothing that can't be compensated for.   Windage seemed to be right on as long as I could hold the little buggar still.
