Change the message board photo
« on: February 16, 2015, 11:07:27 AM »
Hi, our message board photo is beginning to creep me out. It shows Pietta's version of the 1862 Police. That image is so far from the truth that Sam Colt channeled me to say that he is also creeped out with our photo.

How about returning to a Colt designed revolver for the message board?

Regards,
Richard

Richard!  *6'

I thought we had a rotating message board photo thing going on here?
I don't think a MOD can post up any new photos for this?

I thought we voted and the membership chose that photo.  I agree it is not an exact representation of a Colt revolver but it's close.  I'm not bothered by it.

That's a nice photo, call it a chopped '61 Navy and Sam C. would like it fine.  I like it fine.

Hi Captain, President Obama was also by popular vote.   )lI )lI   In all honesty I also voted for the Pietta creation of the 1862 Police, but the more I see it, the more the abstraction bugs me. Maybe change the banner photo every month?

Richard

I am not a fan of Pietta revolvers but I am a fan of good photography.  That is a nice photograph of a Model 1861 with a short barrel and lightened cylinder.  I voted for it. along with 5 or 6 others, and hope to see it for a while longer.

Is it a 100% accurate copy of anything?  No, but few photos posted on this site are.  It is still a good photograph.

It's a great photo, and could have been purchased from Colt's.  The good Colonel would make just about anything a purchaser would want as applies to barrel lengths, carbine stocks, engraving and custom stocking.  Chopping the barrel and half fluting the cylinder would be well within the realm of possibility.

The only problem I have is with Pietta calling it an 1862 Police

Exactly!

I am not sure about the fluting but I know Colts would give you any barrel length you were willing to pay to have.  In one of Keith's books is a photograph of an 1861 with a factory 6" barrel.  Great looking revolver!

Hi, the more I looked at our banner photo, the more my thinking changed. My mother-in-law used to say "turn your mental screw" when a mental adjustment was required. Well, I turned my mental screw and ordered the Pietta .36 1862 which is an 1861 Colt. Cabelas has it on sale for $199 and free shipping.

What's nice about the Pietta 1862, that I will call an 1861, compared to the Uberti 1862 is that 1851 38 Colt (38 Special) conversion cylinders can be used with the Pietta. Thanks to Fingers I now also own a few Pietta .36 cap and ball cylinders that can be used with this new Pietta.

Regards,
Richard

I'm thinking like you Richard.   The Pietta  1862 Police is growing on me.   I do wish they would call it  a '61 with a short barrel though.  I'm going to wait on purchasing one.  I just bought two revolvers that are more "correct" so I have work a few more months or sell a few holsters before I can order one.
