General Discussion / Good Morning!
« on: October 12, 2021, 09:53:54 AM »
Good Morning, gents! It has been a while since I logged on to Colt Country. I have not been able to get on for quite some time and was very thankful to get the new web address link in my email yesterday. Looks like there is a lot of catching up to do here.
I was very sad to see that sourdough and mazo kid have passed on. There posts were very informative. I also see I missed a great contest. Congrats to Alaska Guy on winning a beautiful pistol. Shotgun Dave, thank you for your efforts.
I am not sure what all went haywire with the forum but glad you gents got it fixed.
Since I last logged on I bought a CVA Hawkins rifle in 50 cal and am enjoying shooting it.
Well I have a lot of reading to catch up on. See you around gents!

Colt's Southern Cousins / Pietta brass frame
« on: March 30, 2021, 11:26:38 AM »
Not sure if this is the proper place for this thread. Feel free to move it if you need to.

A gent I shoot with on occasion has a Pietta 1851 Navy brass frame revolver he bought several years ago but never fired. From what I read on this forum it's not really historically correct because it's a .44 caliber and has no roll engraving on the cylinder. Also it's been said that Colt never made a brass frame revolver, only confedrates and those were supposedly 36 caliber. Anyway, he offered it to me unfired for $85.00 with box and papers. Is this a good deal? I've read lots of posts saying to stay away from brass guns and others saying they are ok if you use reduced charges. What do you gents say?

Powder Horns & Flasks / What sort of flask for 1860 Army?
« on: February 11, 2021, 07:18:26 PM »
Hi, gents. Having recently come into purchase of a 1860 Army, I would like to purchase an inexpensive pistol flask. The flask and spout I use on my rifle are way too large, and I want to have one dedicated to the pistol. It does not have to be historically correct. Any suggestions from you gents?

Powder / How much powder?
« on: February 08, 2021, 04:30:04 PM »
Hi, gents. How much powder should I expect to use in my Pietta 1860 Army? The gent that sold it to me gave me a pound and a half of Pyrodex P. What would be a good starting load, and should there  be a do not exceed load for this gun? Thanks

Projectiles / Which round ball for Pietta Army?
« on: February 08, 2021, 04:16:03 PM »
So. I am new to the black powder pistol scene though ive been shooting black powder in my Great Plains quite some time. Some people say to shoot .451 round balls in my Army, others say .454 is better. How do I know which is right for my Pietta?

Powder / Pyrodex?
« on: February 08, 2021, 12:32:44 PM »
Along with my purchase of the Pietta 1860 Army, I also got from the gent 1 full pound of Pyrodex "P" and another half empty lb. I know nothing about Pyrodex. Is it OK to shoot? He said he could not get black powder, and when I checked online sites every one seems to be out of real black powder. If this stuff is OK I'd like to use it up.

Hi, everybody. New to the forum but not black powder. Just picked up a gently used Pietta 1860 Army and looking to learn as much as I can about it.
