General Discussion / how to ship a BLK Powder pistol now days?
« on: October 08, 2023, 02:19:20 PM »
Greeting, It's been awhile since I've been on but I am in need to thin the heard a bit. I have two to sell but wonder about how to ship. I believe UPS used to ship hand guns but don't know if they still do? Once I can feel safe about how to ship I'd like to but them up. Thank you in advance.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Can Carry
« on: July 07, 2022, 05:45:46 AM »
Hi, there is finally some good news for New York State pistol permit holders. Although my Wyoming County doesn't put restrictions on their pistol permits, most other NYS counties do add restrictions like "Restricted to target shooting and legal hunting". To carry concealed for personal protection in NYS, one must prove need, a very high bar to achieve.  Yesterday the US Supreme Court struck down the 100yr NYS permit restrictions law. The Court ruled that every good citizen of NYS has the right to concealed carry. This ruling should also benefit six other states, California included.

Finally a win for the good guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards,
Richard
Yes and immediately the non elected Gov K Hockel wrote and had passed by her majority party an even more restrictive response law. This is sure to go to court ASAP, Congressman Lee Zeldin running for the Gov seat quickly responded to her response law and will repel it if he wins in November. We still have work to do here in NY but at least the SCOTUS made a great ruling in our favor.

just a thought on who carried what lenght barrel and who's gun was who's wouldn't the holster tell the tale? not mentioned but it's possible you could carry a 7 1/2 in a short holster with an open end but I think the barrel would show the wear, and I just doubt anyone would carry a short barrel in a long holster, but who knows? guess we'll never know, Still fun to talk about.

Funny that in the movies they portray him as carrying and using a shorter barreled gun. You'd think as a gunfighter, he would. Instead he carried what looks to be a 7 1/2" gun. Very interesting.
I was thinking the same thing about a short barrel revolver but who knows?  Very very cool to see the video and photos of his gun thanks for posting. Don't you wonder who had the foresight to catalog that pistol and save it for all of time cause it looks like it's in great shape.

At The Range! / Finally got a range day
« on: June 12, 2022, 06:38:51 AM »
In June my local range opens on Fridays for a couple of months and it's a good day to go because it's mostly just retirees and not crowded at all. Decided to bring the 1861 Navy in 36 cal. it has been a long while since firing that one and dropped the 9mm in the bag just to stay familiar with that modern plastic but ideal defensive pistol. Got to the range and after greetings and catching up from the winter I got to the bench and commenced with loading the Navy But what to my wondering eyes I couldn't get the round balls to seat they would just stuck and came back up with the plunger????? I checked the box .375 swaged rd balls but what? finally figured out if I pushed the ball in then turned the cylinder a bit it would seat the ball. fired six and went at loading another cylinder and first two go off then nothing, on full cock the trigger won't release the hammer, *@%$^ pull the caps off remove the nipples and shake out the powder (what a waste) and bag it to remove the balls at home. Load up the 9mm and first round bang holding the semi like a revolver slide rash on my thumb (oh momma) so the rash is leaking and mixing with sweaty hands and I'm a little embarrassed for making such a beginner mistake. So i pack up and call it a day. Later home take apart the '61 clean and reasemble it works fine busted a cylinder of caps everything works fine lol. So that was my range day, however had fun disassembling the '61 and cleaning both guns, I'll admit to having a cold one working in the garage with Hank Sr. on the radio and it was a fun and fustrating day. Still don't know why the balls wounldn't seat but I'll ponder that another day. Hope they did't shrink as they got older!

Great post about an American Legend, I had the fortune to see his '51 at the museum  in person some years back and good to see it again, never knew about the other pistol though, nice to see that for the first time. Thanks for the research.

it only make sense he had more than one pistol ( most of us do and we don't use them for work lol) I guess since the S&W Scofield was a favorite thats the one that gets the fame. I agree I'd have one in a NY minute but $$$$ and so I won't but still a gun of infamy. Thanks Capt.

Off-Topic Discussion / added a little history to our vacation
« on: April 18, 2022, 05:56:27 AM »
Just returned from a little vacation down to South Carolina to see relatives. On the way home made a stop to see the Petersburg Va battlefield and lay eyes on the tunnel entrance and the Crater, ( whats left of it, thought it would be bigger but time has taken a toll) both very good to see and then traveled to Appomadox Court House to see The McClean house and surrounding town which is very nicely done and easy to see in a self guided tour. Then headed west and crossed the Blue Ridge Mountains and traveled up the Shenadoah Valley into Pa then home to Long Island. Great trip first time in over three years we got a chance to head out and see some of this beautiful Country. I thank God for a safe trip and the means to travel!
