Hawg:

I got my G&G tonight and it is exactly as you described insofar as the grip/backstrap.

It will take a few days to check it out/sort it out. The wedge is very tight but seated in farther than my Pietta 1851 originally was, so, work to do.

I want to show a few combinations using this, so should I start a new thread elsewhere on this forum, or...?

Jim

I would. I have swapped stuff around to make a L&R and S&G but haven't shot any like that.

Thanks Hawg. I am fitting the wedge as I see the Pietta gorilla is still employed. So far, so good. Comparing my Pietta Navy wedge with the G&G wedge, the cylinder end is much wider than the 1851 and that is what I am concentrating upon. The grip wood is not so great: straight grained walnut, no figure. Oh well! I have one coat of BC Tru-oil on the wood and will let it rest for 3 days before I attempt to smooth it out with a bit of steel wool.

No pics yet: I still have to figure out what I want to do with this variant post. It may be a while. I will take your recommendation to start a new variation thread.

Back to the bench!

That's weird. I have never had one that three or four good raps with a plastic screwdriver handle and a couple of light ones with a piece of hardwood wouldn't take out. After that they get easier. My G&G is thumb pressure now.

I just want to have any Colt replica open top pistols to work as produced.

My1851 Navy Pietta was like that but this pistol is a bit different. I have sanded the cylinder side of he wedge and cold blued it and it is good to go. Just waiting for the BC Tru-Oil to set up on the plain grips. When it all comes to fruition, I will post.

I only have one Remington .44 and two Remington .36's. The only .44 Colt I have is a Dragoon. I haven't shot a Remington in over three years.
