Everyone who has replied so far feels the same way. We all share a very common interest here. Or have the same marbles missing. (7+"

Practicality doesn't mean modern holsters are best. It depends on the intended use. It isn't 'practical' to get to a CAS match with your SAA in a modern rig. An 1860 is best in a holster of the cap & ball era. A WW2 1911 looks best in a correct web holster. A plastic semi-auto looks most appropriate in a pancake or Kydex.

Yep!! Zackly !!! (especially about the marbles thing !!  (7+")

Sorry, I do not agree with that statement.

Yeah, my statement didn't include the Brills, which I personally am quite fond of. I also like the Frazier holster design shown in Packing Iron on page 132.

I don’t have that book.  Can you post an image of the Frazier?

Interesting.  A bit spotted for my tastes but still a very nice holster.  Thank you for sharing.

A bit spotted for mine, too, but the basic design is quite to my liking. One can always leave off the spots. I made a plain one similar to that for a wild bunch rig and it came out fine. If I make another one, I'll copy the shape closely but again without the gingerbread.

Lose the spots and the top and bottom concho and it will be just right.

You have the right idea, Hawg. That would make a good period holster for an early 1911.
