1st outing with 1875
« on: April 29, 2015, 07:54:31 AM »
Took my new Remington 1875 to the range yesterday.

1st two cylinders of 205 gr LRNFP at 15 yards. It didn't care for them. Switched to 255 gr. It liked them much better.

Moved out to 25 yards, same 255 gr. LRNFP with trail boss.

By then I was feeling sick, so went home.

The 255 grain bullet is THE bullet for the old long Colt cartridge.  When you going to load some black powder in the cartridges?

This one doesn't shoot 255's very well with the loads I've tried so far.

I see you are using Trail Boss for at least one load.  Never tried that stuff, probably never will.  Unique and black powder have been the standards for the long Colt cartridge.  Both get about the same velocity from the bullet but the recoil from the black powder is a bit heartier.  from my Artillery Model, I am getting nearly 900 fps.  From the longer barrel, a bit more.  Both anchor Ohio whitetailed deer well.

My '75 seems to shoot most loads well.  Among its favorite loads is a 200 gr. SWC ACP slug pushed by a full case of Swiss.  Go figure.
