New to me Uberti 1860 fluted
« on: September 26, 2017, 04:47:29 PM »
While at the NMLRA Nationals the other week I was hanging out in the Flintlocks, Inc. booth one evening listening to stories (there may or may not have been beverages) when I noticed an Uberti box on a shelf.  Saw it said 1860 and then saw said revolver in one of the front display cases with a VERY attractive price.  Mike had just taken it in on trade and wanted to move it quickly.  He pointed out the warts; none of which were a deal breaker, and in short order I became the proud owner.

And what's wrong with:
Chipped grip

This spot on the barrel

Dings by one of the notches

And scratches adjacent

Looks like it was dropped.  I'm a shooter so it comes "pre seasoned".

Oh yeah, the arbor's too short.  That will get fixed.  If it shoots as well as the Uberti 1851 I picked up this summer I will be quite happy.

Looks really good to me. Half of the cap and ball revolvers I own have scratches, dings, and dents on them from use. As you said: "I'm a shooter so it comes 'pre seasoned'."
My biggest concern is that when I pass away, my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

One of my favorites is my full fluted 1860.   Mine has dings and scratches too.   It makes it easier to just enjoy loading and shooting if you are not constantly worried about putting a ding in it.

Hi Dave, that's a very nice charcoal blued Uberti. It may be difficult to touch up the bluing issues on a charcoal blued gun with standard cold blue. The Uberti charcoal blue will wear faster than their dark blue finish so that most of the bluing issues will blend in with use, especially if used as a shooter.

Good luck with your new revolver.

Richard

I am very partial to a full flute 1860.  To the extent that one can conger a favorite I think they are my favorite.

Does it seem that your new one has been shot much?  The finish looks low miles as if it has not been out or about very often or maybe that's just how the charcoal bluing wears (?).

A little matching stain on that wood and the ding will look like a beauty mark of character.  It would be fun if guns could talk.

A nice and maybe highly fortunate pick up - congrats both ways.

Is it charcoal blued or is that just a lighting reflection?   Looks light Uberti's standard blue finish to me but I could be wrong.

Forgot to mention earlier....   Nice purchase,  good for you.

I believe it's standard blue.  It appears more black than blue in most lighting.  The box doesn't specify.

I don't believe it has been shot at all.  Mike said the first owner is the type that buys a gun and trades it in a week later.

Hi Dave, if that is Uberti standard bluing all those scratch marks will disappear with any cold blue.

I look forward to your shooting report.

Richard

Hi Bruce, it was me. It's the most accurate 1860 I own using a .45 Colt conversion cylinder. Notice that I installed a tall front sight:

Hi Bruce, the above photo showed the fluted 1860 you sold me with a taller blade sight. If I remember correctly, the recoil from my .45 Colts eventually shot the sight off and I fixed that with a dovetail sight. This is the revolver today with the tall dovetail sight:

Richard
