The steel parts all look like they came in the white, and not had a finish removed. Did Pietta ever market a kit with the short barrel? But the brass looks pretty factory too. So that would probably indicate it's not a kit.

Maybe it's a "lunchbox gun". Some guy at Pietta snuck parts out of the factory in his lunchbox. Kinda like the Pyschobilly Cadillac.

 Yeah they made short barreled kits but with proof marks and a date code the frame certainly was not a kit.

Hah! Definitely do-able in a lunch box! And lots of things could have happened since 2000. I guess we can all be happy with favorite IDs given.
