CK, you asked about a powder drop tube....easy enough to make your own if you want to use one. Here is one I threw together a few years ago, still need to paint/stain it. But it works without that refinement!

I just used some scrap pieces of maple flooring that I have in abundance, but any wood will work. I can either clamp or bolt it to the bench top. I used 1/4" copper tubing, but copper, brass, brake line, even aluminum arrow shaft does the job. I cut a slot in the wood (drilled it and filed it square) to fit a square nut in to put a bit of tension on the tube and makes it adjustable for different brass cases.

Copper adapter coupling on top to put a small funnel in.

Too much work for me, I opt for the slow pour method.

Kevin, the only extra "work" was the making of the stand itself. Everything else would be pretty much equal. There are times when I don't use the drop tube, like smaller pistol cases. Then I just tap the case with something like a screwdriver handle after putting powder in, and it settles nicely.

mazo kid,

Sorry, I was not referring to the woodworking.  That, for me, is a bit of therapy and very relaxing.  For me, the work would be the juggling of the tube, case, powder etc.  And it would remind me of when I was chasing the last bit of minutia to achieve a better group.  It became consuming and shooting lost it's enjoyment.  The pursuit of "perfection" eventually caused me to quit shooting altogether.  Now, I am happy with rifles that get me to 3 MOA, all day, every day.  Handguns are still my weak spot, it was C&B that got me shooting again, and only accurate handguns are considered for sport.

I reload to garner more enjoyment from the sport.  I shoot to relax and improve myself.  It is a battle!

Understood, but I still maintain the drop tube is not much different than your method....place brass under tube, dump powder in funnel. We each use methods we have worked out. I have never been a competition shooter (although I did shoot Expert with an M1). I reload and shoot strictly for my own relaxation and fun.

Looks like I've neglected to update this thread... ^j)

This is the very fine Pedersoli Sharps I purchased from our own Mazo Kid. To say I'm absolutely thrilled with it is the understatement of the decade.
