Searching for S&G
« on: December 05, 2017, 09:33:52 AM »
I'm in persuit of a Schneider & Glassic to round out the my confederate handgun collection.
For some reason my computer won't post photos of Gun Broker sales ?
Anyone have one for sale or help lead me to one, would be appreciated.

Hewy, have you tried again lately to see photos on GB? I see photos, but not all are displayed; maybe still in the process of updating?

I have pics too.

You could buy a 51 navy and a  Griswold & Gunnison and be able to make a Schneider & Glassick and a Leech & Rigdon just not at the same time.

A lot (most) of the brass framed 1851s on GB are actually S&Gs.  Here's one for under $75 so far 722869403

Others are:
723962406
721983981

I knew there would be some there, but I'm having trouble with photos not showing on Gun Brokers, so can't
id the brass 51s with octagonal barrels.

That first one you listed Fingers is identical first cap and ball I bought back in 1969 going for the same price I paid back then, $60 new. It was made in 1967.

My biggest concern is that when I pass away, my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

I can't sell you anything from my own collectio due to US regulations. My advice would be to keep watching Gunbroker and get yourself one of the EIG Navies that pop up there quite regularly. To me they are the best Schneider & Glassick replicas taht were made, either plain or engraved. The prices may a bit overblown, but I guess you can talk the sellers into lowering them. One strong point is that the markings are very discreet. No "black powder only" on the barrel and so on...

I have one of the "accidental S&G's" discussed elsewhere on this forum, an ASM model. Never fired it. Might consider parting with it, never thought about it much.

Hawg, I realized, after reading you post, that Pietta parts  I have make a Leech & Rigdon and an S&G. Although  the plane cylinder
( no battle scene ) can only apply to one or the other. So all I need is a spare Pietta plane .36 cylinder and I got the correct combo. ($!
