Winchester Model 12
« on: February 29, 2020, 10:44:18 AM »
Hi, I was in my local gun store today and he had a used Winchester Model 12 in very good condition for sale for $350. What do you think, is it worth the price?

Regards,
Richard

What gauge, barrel length, rib/no rib, year made, etc. ? $350 sounds OK.

Regards,

Jim

Even if it's just a shooter it's worth the $350. But I'm with Jim, I'd like to know the particulars.

Hi Jim, 12ga, no rib. I think the barrel is 28", but I don't know the age. I'll know more when I go in the store again next week.

Regards,
Richard

I've got one my dad bought new in 53. Great gun. IMO one of the best pumps ever made.

If it is a very old gun, make sure the barrel is marked 2-3/4" shells. Winchester started doing this around 1927-28 because the previous ones were chambered for 2-9/16" shells.

My Dad had a field grade (with the corncob fore-end) in 16 gauge full choke 28". I really like the way it handled and I have always been a Rem 870 guy. The Model 12 was lighter at the muzzle end than the 870 and pointed very well. The original walnut stock had very large stock drop at the heel (about 3"+) and it was much nicer to shoot (for me) when he restocked it with one that had a 2-5/8" drop because I like to see the top of the barrel/rib when the gun is mounted. Just my $.02 worth.

Regards,

Jim

If it's a pre 64 it's not going to sell for $350. 00. It would be over $1,000.00.

Yep, you're right. I was thinking they were made into the 70's for some reason.

Hi Bruce, that's some cool shooting. It looks like you can shoot the pump faster than one can shoot a semi-auto.

12s don't have a disconnector, just hold the trigger back and pump.

Old M37 Ithica's are like that too. I keep one behind my bedroom door.

I bought an old Mdl. 12 from a co-worker many years ago and kinda forgot about it. Guess I will have to dig it out.
