I'm backordered at Taylors and everywhere else that sells Pietta 1860 conversion cylinders.   Taylors licensed the production of the cylinders from Howell and I assumed they contract out to one or more machine shops to have them made.  Now, if that machine shop is in Italy, I could understand the problem.  Have any of you heard anything from the grapvine?  GF

Same reason there are no bullet moulds available. Or reloading dies. Or powder. Or primers...

1) People are hoarding
2) 5 million new gun owners in 2020
3) people wanting "under the radar" firearms
4) business backlogs due to pandemic
5) all of the above

That was just for the 1858/6 shot cylinder. If you want a "drop" cyl, Howell should have them as well as gated conversions. You can also check with VTI and ask Lisa about a Kirst conversion.

Hello Grey Fox,

I emailed Kirst asking about a 5 shot 1851/1860 cylinder in .44 Colt,
they replied no custom orders until they get caught up.

I did look at Midway's page and they have them.

This wasn't recently, but I ordered a conversion cylinder for my Dragoon on sale at Midway. I haven't seen any for close to that price since!

I'm not wanting to do a Kirst gated conversion, just a drop in.  GF

I'm with you, if I want a gated revolver I'll get a '73. The conversions work for what I want.

Nothing wrong with a gated conversion. I love mine!

very nice Dave. I like the gated conversion. i have enough colt types so that one gun being a perm conversion is fine with me...

I never said I didn't like the gated conversions, just that I didn't want to make one from a percussion revolver. When you do, you no longer have a percussion revolver.

Sorry Em. I didn't mean to indicate that you didn't like them. You were just pretty firm that you wouldn't have one.

For me, they fill a niche. If you want a representation of a Colt-Richards conversion, this is an easy way to get one. The ones made by ASM and others are hard to come by. So this is the way I went instead. Plus, it was fun to make, allowing me to use my creativity.

I HAD an ASM open-top conversion that I foolishly sold to a friend a while ago. It was in 44 Colt and I had made a box of ammo. I never did shoot it. I sure wish I had it back now. That said, I do have '73 type guns to fill the hole.

I'd love to have one of those ASM guns Em. But as you know, they're rare as an honest politician. I have the 1860 Army, my homemade conversion, and a 72 Open Top. An ASM Richards would fill out the collection nicely.
