Is there any reason to have a preference for a Pietti over an Uberti?  I also want a classic action so, I would prefer to avoid the transfer bars and modified hammer solutions.  I'm really thinking "classic" not, modified classic.

I'm not sure if Pietta still makes a 73 without a transfer bar. Uberti no longer makes one with a 4 click hammer and all Ubertis have some type of hammer safety. Even mine made in 2000 has a hammer block. Now they have a retractable firing pin. I don't think Pietta makes one without the transverse cylinder latch but they might. Here is my Uberti/Cimarron. You can see the external portion of the hammer block under the firing pin.

The hammer block like yours Hawg doesn't bother me. My 72 Open Top has that too.

Sidpost - So, I talked with the gentleman in question regarding his 1873. No dice. He wants to hold it awhile longer. No worries though. If enough of us are looking, I'm sure you'll get a line on one.

My Richards Mason has the retractable firing pin. There's a small screw about halfway down the hammer that controls it. Not my pic.

Thanks fellas.  :-[ . I figured the more SAA's we get into the hands of good people the quicker history could repeat itself,  and the next thing you know  we'll be partying like it's 1879!

I think it's just personal preference Sid. The Uberti guns have a higher fit and finish if that helps. I believe they have more models available too. I am like you, I don't care for the moderen transfer bar on a SAA.

The Pietta guns are closer to Colt's dimensions. A bit lighter and better balanced for me. Uberti slightly over builds their guns for safety liability reasons. They do have better finishes and try to minimize markings on the gun.

Of late Pietta has stepped up their game in fit and finish. Pietta Cap Guns are less likely as Uberti to need a little fitting and honing.

The 73's maybe. I don't have a Pietta or an original to compare. Pietta cap and balls are bigger than Uberti and Uberti is bigger than originals.

Hawg, correct me if I am wrong. Pietta doesn’t make any cartridge revolvers?

They do indeed make an 1873 Colt clone.
