Very clearly, people have a lot of trouble with caps.  I used to use CCI No. 10’s but their sizing is inconsistent.  Remington 10’s are the same every time and fit just fine on the stock Pietta cones that I use on eight different revolvers.  Stock main springs, too. I use each of those guns quite a lot and none have cap rakes.

I’ve polished the hammer faces on all of them and on the Colt’s have also polished that cap channel on the recoil shield that leads off to the right.  After seating the caps I go around again and gently press each one with a wooden dowel.  I do that out of habit and when I forget that step - the caps still stay on after firing.  I have to use my thumbnail to remove spent caps.

I have no idea why I don’t suffer the troubles described throughout the C&B shooting world.  Dumb luck is as likely an explanation as any I can identify.

I know, lucky me an stuff - but honestly, WTF is going on?  Happily perplexed.

G Dog, you're not alone. I almost never have cap problems. Once in a blue moon, one will gum up the works. But not very often.

Nomenclature matters.  This from Muzzleloading Forum:

Question --
I own a 3rd Model Dragoon, my nipples tend to end up inside the frame causing all sorts of trouble.  Is there a fix (?).

Response--
Hold the gun at arms length.

Priceless.

(7+" (7+" (7+"   I'm another one that doesn't have trouble with cap sucking. I prefer CCI caps. I get too many Remington caps that lose their priming compound.

I take a jewelers file to the outside corners of the hammer, just slightly rounding the corner. Almost completely eliminates cap sucking.

Thank you for that info tljack . That's very good to know. Tim

What Jack said.  I've done that on all of mine with light paper and a stone.  They needed it.  Works good.
