The extra cylinder that came with mine was engraved too.   I sold mine to Richard  (ssb73q)

I still have mine. I will have to check, but I seem to recall the spare cylinder was not engraved.

Yeah, well it was one of those have-to-have things. And the price.......how could you not want one?

Speaking of Remingtons, here is a photo comparing the size of my 2nd Gen Colt 1851 to my Sile (made by ASP) New Model Army. As you can see, they are practically the same size.

You're right. And the 2G Colt looks like there is even less TG clearance than the Remmy with that squareback TG...

My somewhat unique "target" Remington...unique in the fact that the PO actually shortened the cylinder to allow a gas ring to be cut on the face of the cylinder, and the barrel threaded deeper in the frame to compensate...

Note the "gas ring" at the top of the photo...

...compared to a standard Remington cylinder...

...top view...

Barrel setback...

Axle pin (arbor) cut shorter to compensate for gas ring...

...which seats deeper in the frame.

Business end...

When I got this thing, it wouldn't operate. Timing was off, Hammer wouldn't to to full cock, and other ills. The guy I bought it from gave up on it. I put in a new Pietta hammer, trigger, a few springs, replaced a buggered screw or two, and hand-fit a new bolt assembly. Also worked the action over by smoothing and polishing. Of course, this one came with the Remmy Target sights as well. Reduced cylinder capacity holds about 30gr 3f max now. How does it shoot? Hands-down the most accurate BP pistol I own. In fact, it's more accurate than many of my modern pistols. The adjustable sights allow me to be dead-nuts at 25 yards with zero compensation. And after the PO did all that work to it, he did a deep, rich hot bluing that is really outstanding. Somebody put a LOT of work and TLC into this gun and it shows!

Wow! Nice work. IF.... I was looking for another project, something like that would be tempting. I have a rifle and a couple of revolvers lined up at the moment.

IDK...and the gas ring works, too. Very little fouling on the axle pin.
