There's a YouTube video out there on how to modify the Pietta grip to more closely match the original Colt shape.

I've seen that. Something about taking a grinder to a NIB gun that don't sit well with me, though...

The grip on a Pietta is slighly more flared than on an Uberti, but there are original 1851s that have the same grip flare as the Pietta.  Personally, I prefer the Uberti grip frame.

Have a photo of an original Colt 1851 with a grip frame that's flared like the Pietta? I've never seen one.

Hi Electric, these look close:

BTW, I have no issue with the Pietta grip for practical C&B shooting.

OK, here is a Pietta 1851 with a different grip:

To my eye, none of those is nearly as pronounced as the Pietta flare

I have an extra Pietta back strap and grip That you can "practice" on. -will sell cheap
I am just finishing changing the Grips on my Pietta '51. I recently bought a Uberti London, and want the grips to match  (@+ and  be original shape.

Hi, thank you Dave for your kind offer. I will do the modification on the grip parts you are sending me. This is Mike's video on modifying the Pietta grips:

I have a hunch that instead of using a hacksaw and file, a belt sander will make short work of the grip tail and also allow shaping the wood grip part together with the brass backstrap. I'll let the group know how it turns out after doing the modification.

Regards,
Richard
