Can anyone tell me a good way to remove cosmoline without disassembling the revolver?
A couple months ago I won an auction for a NIB Colt 2nd Gen. 1851 Navy. It turned out to be a special edition "Blank Cylinder" version, of which only 300 were made so I don't want to shoot it. It appears totally new with no marks whatsoever, like the wedge has never been removed, the loading lever has never been moved and the cylinder has never been turned.
I set it on a towel to take pictures of it and now it looks like crap because there's lint all over it stuck to the cosmoline. I need to find a way to clean it without disassembling or moving any of the parts.
To stay on topic, here's a couple pics.
