Hawg, about guns and cuddling with wolves, were you considered for Dancing with Wolves? Just wondering.

Here are the pictures (I hope) of the Hopkins & Allen Model 100. It was in nice enough shape that I had to fix it. The gunsmith(Winters Gun Specialists) is an old time 3rd Gen gunsmith. Going to his shop is always an adventure. In the display case amongst various treasures is a Volcanic pistol, a few original 66 Winchesters, a wall of nice Parker shotguns, etc. Only The Lord knows what's in that back workshop. My last visit to drop off the Hopkins & Allen he let me handle a 1st Gen. 1880s Colt SAA 7 1/2"( don't remember caliber) that was unfired and the cylinder unturned! All this stuff has been in the family since Grandad started a hundred years ago.
I'm just learning about posting these pictures(actually my wife did it) so will do better in the future.

That looks like a nice one. I can see why you didn't mind spending money on it.

You bet it gets shot, its already done duty at two Cowboy matches. Black powder of course. I was not sure I made this decision correctly, but the gunsmith claimed the chambers were real close to 2 3/4" and he finished reaming them to that standard size. I had no idea how the gun was utilized in the past, but the 'smith said the barrels were sound and there was virtually no pitting. I still beat myself up a little on that decision, but the guy I got it from had already fired modern 2 3/4" smokeless shells a few times. I know there is a debate about pressure spikes firing a 2 3/4" shell in a shorter chamber, so I erred on the side of caution. I hope Hopkins & Allen will forgive me, but at least the gun is now tight as a drum and being well taken care of.

I don't recommend it but I fired a ton of 2 3/4 smokeless out of short chambered Damascus barrels when I was a kid. I even accidently fired a 3 inch magnum out of my 2 5/8 chambered 1887 Winchester.

When I was a kid, I had an old engraved L. D. Parker hammer double with Damascus barrels. Those barrels were flawless but I still shot only low base shells in it anyway. Never had any issues then but today I wouldn't do that for fear the Damascus might have some unseen corrosion waiting to let go.

This is the same model with the same pheasant scene on it but not mine. I found this photo online.

I've got an old W Parker muzzleloader or at least part of it. I think I left the barrels and stock at the old house. It was in terrible shape when I got it and the only reason I got it was for the hammers. The solder holding the barrel ribs was rotten and when I took the barrels off the whole thing fell apart. The wood was all dry rotted and cracked. I've got the locks and trigger guard etc. in a box somewhere.
